About Our Business
Specializing in custom charter sailing cruises, let us craft a
wonderful experience for you. Romantic escapes, team
building events, sightseeing cruises or sailing adventure!
The location:
You may start your cruise at a choice of New England locations
but we are based in the beautiful seaside village of Little
Compton, Rhode Island. Just across the water and in sight of
the world famous mansions of Newport, RI.
Sakonnet harbor in Little Compton is ideally suited for journeys
to Newport, to the Elizabethan Islands, and to Martha's
Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod. Block Island is just a few
hours sail, and just over the horizon is the rural tip of Long
Island with its many small islets and harbors.
Beautiful beaches, picturesque harbors, and memories to last
a lifetime await you!
The Yacht:
The Hinckley 49 is a restored classic yacht- a two-masted
center-cockpit ketch, with 2 private staterooms, a spacious
galley, and a comfortable main cabin. In addition to a full suite
of sails the vessel has a 120 HP diesel inboard. Hot and cold
running water, a full walk in shower and two heads with
showers ensure comfort for all aboard. The interior is
beautifully fitted out with a classic teak and holly cabin sole and
mahogany and teak woodwork with the world renowned
Hinckley quality craftsmanship.
The Captain and Crew:
Your Captain is Robert Cavanagh, and the first mate and chef
is his sister, (also a licensed captain) Leea Grote. Both are
natives of scenic Little Compton, Rhode Island.
Captain Robert has 25 years of year round experience on the
water as a commercial fisherman, and designed and built his
own 54 foot lobster boat, named after his daughter, Alison
Rose. Robert is a Licensed Captain with a United States
Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's license with sail and towing
endorsements. In addition to life on the water, Robert enjoys
skiing. Robert and his wife Barbara have three children.
Leea , first mate, chef, and reservations, has been on and
around boats for 20 years, including experiences as crew on
a gaff rigged schooner and many summers spent sailing the
waters, harbors and visiting the islands of southern New
England on her own sailboats. Leea is the former owner of a
colonial era bed and breakfast inn (The John York House in
North Stonington, CT) and is an excellent chef who prides
herself in creating a memorable and fun experience for each
of her guests. Leea also has a USCG 100-ton Master's
license with sail and towing endorsement. In addition to
sailing and cooking, Leea enjoys gardening, is skilled at
pottery, and loves vacationing with her family in Ireland and
France. Leea and her husband Dave have two children.
